The Piper Building

  • Location:Fulham
  • Status:Completed
  • Client:Private Domestic

The Piper Building in South West London was regenerated as a residential and commercial community hub in the late 1990s inspired by John Piper. The Piper Building was originally built in 1950s as a laboratory complex for The North Thames Gas Board. The concrete framed building now contains 70 apartments with a variety of complementary uses. shape+ was commissioned to design and remodel the interior of a tired one-bed flat transforming it into a stylish open-plan apartment.

shape+ undertook the complex structural negotiations with the building’s engineer and was involved in resolving the awkward logistics of the construction; it was a challenging and incredibly rewarding project to deliver.
